    In May 2024, Kaiti and I embarked on an experiment In May 2024, Kaiti and I embarked on an experimental project: We bought ALL the ingredients you would need if you wished to cook ALL the recipes in “Milk Street: Tuesday Night Mediterranean” by @cpkimball (Voracious, April 2021) Many of you are new to following us since then so you missed our original video about this project. Thought it would be fun to repost it! Kaiti spent a couple afternoons working in a spreadsheet, counting up ingredients and creating our grocery shopping list. (In May 2026 this task takes me about 30 minutes with ChatGPT as I upload page images to it for processing) We then shopped for the food, mostly at Fred Meyer and Whole Foods near suburban Seattle. It took about three grocery carts and my Subaru SUV was FULL! I lost my original receipts but I recall our grocery bill was around $1400. I had to go on vacation soon after, and couldn’t actually immediately cook very many of the recipes. Next we split up the groceries we wanted for my house and Kaiti’s house (I’m vegetarian so she got most of the meat, and she is gluten free so I got most of the pasta). We then quickly donated the rest of the food to the food pantry I volunteer at (it luckily has refrigerators and freezers!) This was a fun and interesting cookbook shopping experiment and I am glad for the knowledge we gained and the opportunity to help our community! -Carrie #cookbookdivas #lovecookbooks #cookbookaddict

    Cookbooks spotted in the wild! I spent a lovely Cookbooks spotted in the wild! I spent a lovely afternoon shopping at @shopuvillage in Seattle this weekend. Of course I made a beeline for @papersource (I love stationery!) and enjoyed browsing their displays of cookbooks. (I didn’t buy any, as I already own most of these!) “Cake Picnic” was displayed prominently, as were “Good Things” and “By Heart.” “Cookies” was on offer, as well as “Mind Over Batter.” It was good to see “Baking Across America” still displayed as well!     Take a look at my #groceryhaul of gluten free food Take a look at my #groceryhaul of gluten free foods for my friend who lives in a small town with few grocery store options. I shopped at a suburban Whole Foods Market near Seattle for these gluten free pastas, gluten free bread, and gluten free crackers. I was delighted to find gluten free panko as well. My friend does not eat sugar, so I skipped the gluten free cookies and baked goods aisle. Some of the brands you see here include Banza, Jovial, Franz, Manini’s, Canyon Bakehouse, Simple Truth, and Whole Foods’ own Simple Truth brand.
