I don’t know about you, but in wintertime I spend significantly more time reading – and I read A LOT year-round. It’s too cold to go out and do things, rainy or snowy, so I just curl up on the couch or in bed and read voraciously.

Since you’re likely here reading our blog because you love cookbooks (and cooking, and baking, dare I presume?) I wanted to introduce you to The Bakeshop Mysteries (via Amazon; affiliate link).

It’s a series of cozy mystery books that revolve around baking, bakeries, bake shops and the like. The author is Ellie Alexander.

Her main character, JulesCapshaw, owns a bakery in Ashland, Oregon called “Torte.” She solves mysteries and has flirtations and adventures.

So far, there are nineteen delightful books in the series. (I have only read two so far!) The titles make me chuckle – cute and clever!

  1. Meet Your Baker (2014)
  2. A Batter of Life and Death (2015)
  3. On Thin Icing (2015)
  4. Caught Bread Handed (2016)
  5. Fudge and Jury (2017)
  6. A Crime of Passion Fruit (2017)
  7. Another One Bites the Crust (2018)
  8. Live and Let Pie (2018)
  9. Til Death Do Us Tart (2018)
  10. A Cup of Holiday Fear (2019)
  11. Nothing Bundt Trouble (2020)
  12. Chilled to the Cone (2020)
  13. Bake, Borrow and Steal (2021)
  14. Mocha, She Wrote (2021)
  15. Donut Disturb (2022)
  16. Muffin But the Truth (2022)
  17. Catch Me If You Candy (2023)
  18. A Smoking Bun (2024)
  19. Sticks and Scones (2024)

As you can see, Ellie Alexander is quite a prolific and fast writer, coming out with two books a year most of the time. That’s an impressive feat!

These books aren’t all sugary light and fluffy. There’s murder, poisoned wines, ex-husbands, flirtations, accusations, culprits and killers. It’s all very exciting. You’ll probably need to have a dessert on hand while reading or it will be torturous!

Each of the books contains recipes, and the author features a “Torte Test Kitchen” area on her blog with recipes.

Some of the Bakeshop Mystery books aren’t on Kindle; you can shop them in paperback here (via Amazon; affiliate link).

Hope you enjoy checking out these cozy reads!
